If you’re looking for an engagement ring that’s understated, subtle and different, an Aquamarine engagement ring could be the way to go. Of course, finding the right ring can be challenging.

Fortunately, we put in a lot of work to come up with each of our rings. Every colour was vetted, samples made, samples rejected and destroyed. Every half a millimetre inspected, to make sure the proportions are just right. But the end result is something we are genuinely proud of. Based on our learnings, here’s what we think can help you choose the perfect Aquamarine engagement ring.

Aquamarine engagement ring

1. Go for pastel blue

Aquamarines come in a host of different shades. They range from pale blue (almost white) to sea blue with greenish hues. But the best tones are the ones in pastel blue. That colour really hits the sweet spot when it comes to engagement rings. They’re pleasing to the eye and allude a certain sense of calmness.

2. Make sure they’re clear

Aquamarines are transparent stones. It’s fairly easy to make a large, clear Aquamarine stone. That’s how the ore naturally is. So if you come across a stone that’s got inclusions or abrasions, or looks milky, we’d recommend you look for another.

3. A thinner band is the way to go

For something as beautiful and pleasing as an Aquamarine, a thin but sturdy band will look perfect. Most of our Aquamarine engagement rings come with a 1.5mm band. After lots of trial and error, we narrowed down on this dimension, because it looks absolutely perfect with the designs we offer. There’s a sense of delicateness to its appearance, but it’s sturdy and strong too.

4. Size matters

Aquamarines are typically easily available in larger sizes. In fact, as you go below 5mm, the pastel blue shade tends to fade out, leaving a pale blue hue. Bigger sizes allow for the colour to really show its charm, and also evenly spread out. We recommend anything above 5mm to make sure the colour stands out (along with other recommendations for Aquamarine Rings). It also helps that a bigger stone helps with proportions of the ring itself, giving a more balanced look.

5. Pair it with some diamonds

By itself, the pastel blue Aquamarine looks great. But pair it with some diamonds, and the colour just tends to get accentuated. Go in for a halo setting, or try out one of our rings. All our Aquamarine engagement rings come with accent diamonds. This is baked right into the design, so as to make the ring look brilliant and cohesive as a whole.
