Planning on buying an Aquamarine Engagement Ring? Here’s what you should know before you invest in a gorgeous blue stone crafted to perfection.

1. They’re related to Emeralds

Yes, they come from the same family as Emeralds do – the Beryl family. The difference being the colour. Emeralds are vibrant green. Aquamarines are pastel blue.

2. They’re crystal clear, perfect for an engagement ring

Aquamarine’s are naked eye clean. Considering they’re pastel coloured, this is absolutely essential. In fact, a majority of Aquamarines available on the market are crystal clear. When in doubt, think of the calm waters on a Mediterranean beach. Crystal clear, aren’t they? That’s how your Aquamarine should be like.

3. Better when they’re subtle

Aquamarines are available in a wide variety of colours – from pale blue and almost white to sea blue with a tinge of green. We’ve seen them all, and after much consideration, we think a pastel blue shade with brilliant lustre is the way to go. They’re subtle, and the pastel blue shade hits a sweet spot, that also gels well with whatever you’re rocking on the apparel front. Read more in our Ultimate Guide to Aquamarine Rings.

4. Bigger the better

Larger Aquamarines tend to have better colour – more accurate hues and evenly spread out too. Stones less than 5mm are an unusual choice for engagement rings, and the smaller they go from that point, the lower the colour density and accuracy.

5. Hard enough for daily use

They’re rated at a hardness level of 8 on the Mohs scale. That means they’re well suite for daily use, and scratch resistant too. Your Aquamarine engagement ring will look like new for years to come.

6. Go with any colour of gold

Aquamarine Rings go well with any colour of gold. We personally think they look great with Rhodium plated white gold and 18KT solid pink gold. Each one of those options brings a different look to your ring. But both look great.
